More information
History comes to life in Fort Eben-Emael! The completely underground military complex is excavated in 3 levels in a marl hill. The floor plan has a base of 750m, a height of 950m and a network of tunnels of more than 5km. 17 gun positions equipped with the most modern weapons made this military complex considered the strongest in Europe. During the entire tour you will receive explanations from a guide, which will take you even further into the history story.
The purpose of the fort was to shield the bridges over the Maas and the Albert Canal in the region of Visé, Maastricht and Lanaken and to prevent a German invasion army from entering the Belgian interior.
In the various rooms of the museum you can take a look at the German attack plans, you can become acquainted with the horrors of the German V1 weapons and you can watch the attack on the three bridges of the Albert Canal on 10 May 1940. In short: a museum with a great history.

Zeer interessante rondleiding.
