Elephant Park

13 Asian elephants live in the Cologne Elephant Park. In June 2020, the youngest resident, the little cow Leev Ma Rie, was born. She is the twelfth calf to be born here. The Cologne elephant herd lives in its natural family group without direct contact with the keepers. The leader is Leitkuh Kreeblamduan. Learn more about this family during a visit to Cologne Zoo! The Hippodome From hippos to Nile crocodiles: Immerse yourself in the impressive nature of the Black Continent and discover an African river landscape in the heart of Cologne at the Hippodome. At the Hippodrome, you can get up close to hippos, Nile crocodiles, antelopes, various bird species, and other inhabitants of the river plains. The spacious and accessible replica of an African river landscape is unique in Germany. In the Hippodome, you can delve into the fascinating world of Africa and observe the animals from different angles: underwater, from a bird's-eye view, and even eye-to-eye. This gives you a unique insight into the normally hidden habitats of animals in the wild.

The Aquarium

From the native course of the Rhine to the Indo-Pacific coral reef: The Aquarium presents the inhabitants of mysterious aquatic worlds. In approximately 70 geographically arranged aquariums, heavenly colorful fish, anemones, corals, starfish, shells, and crabs are presented.

Terrarium

Embark on a grand expedition and inspect a variety of exotic amphibians and reptiles in approximately 60 terrariums. A special attraction is a visit to the recently discovered squill monitor. Land and sea turtles are also represented. In addition, an abundance of different species of lizards, amphibians, and snakes meander through the extensive and species-sorted terrarium landscapes. Or visit the Philippine crocodiles, incidentally the most endangered crocodile species in the world.

South America

The South American section of the zoo is home to the giant anteater. These impressive animals with their characteristic snouts can grow to over two meters long. Tapirs and capybaras share the area. The playful tapirs with their characteristic bodies often play with colorful balls in their enclosure. The water pigs, also called capybaras, enjoy a dip in the moat. Anyone who needs a little fiesta after so much exoticism can recharge their batteries in the "La Dante del Oro" restaurant. It was redesigned in 2012 in the style of a South American hacienda. With a view of the anteater, the tapir, and the co, the spicy chili con carne and hearty nachos taste twice as good.

Accessibility

There is limited parking at Cologne Zoo. You can park your car at the CONTI parking garage for a daily rate of €5. You can also park at Zoo Bridge for a daily rate of €5. Consult Google Maps for the exact route from your starting point and for current departure and travel times.
